Supreme Leader: WMDs, Nuclear Arms "Religiously Forbidden"
Saturday, 17 April 2010 11:55

Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in his message today to the Ist International Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Conference in Tehran, termed the US claims on its so-called campaign against expansion of nuclear weapons as "sheer lies".

He asked if the US allegations about a campaign against nuclear weapons were not fabrications, would the Zionist entity called Israel refuse to accept international rules and regulations in this regard, especially the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), thereby turning the usurped land of Palestine into a stockpile of nuclear weapons?

The Supreme Leader said the US is the only nuclear criminal and underlined that currently the US falsely claims to struggle against the spread of atomic weapons, while actually it has not taken any measure to this end and will never do so in the future.

He pointed out that certain states have produced and stockpiled nuclear weapons, while adding that this act, in itself, can be interpreted as a prelude to commitment of crime, and has intensely threatened international peace.

Ayatollah Khamenei further added that since the dropping of US atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki which led to a major and unprecedented human catastrophe in history and jeopardized mankind's security, the international community has reached a consensus about the necessity of destruction of nuclear weapons.

In the message, read out by the Supreme Leader's Advisor for international affairs, former foreign minister Dr. Ali Akbar Velayati, nuclear weapons were termed as a source of fear, collective terror, and continuation of the global nuclear nightmare.

The message to 2-day confab titled "nuclear energy for all, nuclear weapons for none", called on the conference to study the dangers of production and stockpiling of nuclear weapons, and present realistic approaches for standing against this threat against mankind, so that resolute strides would be taken for safeguarding and protecting the international peace and stability.

In further remarks, the Supreme Leader reminded that the Iranian nation has been the victim of chemical weapons, while naming different types of weapons of mass destruction, including chemical and biological weapons as serious threats against mankind and noting that "we consider the use of these weapons to be religiously forbidden and believe that efforts for saving mankind from this major disaster and catastrophe is the responsibility of all."

He referred to the inalienable right of Middle Eastern countries to gain access to peaceful nuclear technology for the sake of economic progress and betterment of the future generations, while noting that one of the ominous goals behind the propaganda and disinformation campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran's peaceful nuclear plan is to obstruct the regional nations from paying serious attention to their natural and valuable right.
